Can a higher-wattage injector damage a lower-power device?

A properly implemented active IEEE-compliant injector and powered device negotiate power, so the endpoint draws the class it needs within the supported standard. Passive injectors are different because they may apply fixed voltage without negotiation. Never use passive power unless the endpoint explicitly supports the same voltage and pin arrangement.

Will a Gigabit injector work with a 2.5GbE access point?

It may power the access point if the PoE standard is compatible, but the wired link can be limited to 1Gbps. For a 2.5GbE endpoint, select an injector that explicitly supports 2.5GbE or the required higher rate, and confirm that the upstream switch port and cabling support the same speed.

Is a PoE injector suitable for outdoor cameras?

The injector is commonly placed indoors or inside a protected cabinet, while the cable runs to the outdoor camera. Outdoor installations may need weatherproof enclosures, surge protection, grounding and suitable cable.
